Each year, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) holds its annual conference for all those affected by the deadly disease. This year, the International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma will take place March 2-4, 2015 at the National Institute of Health and the Hyatt Regency Bethesda in Bethesda, MD.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation partnered with the National Cancer Institute to organize this event. The purpose of the symposium is to provide a setting to have community discussions about the disease, as well as host scientific sessions to learn more about new medical findings and treatment options. The event is open to all members of the mesothelioma community, including patients and their families, medical professionals, and those who have lost a loved one to the disease.
Last year’s symposium covered many different topics including pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma, early detection, immunotherapy, post-surgical recovery, chemo and radiation oncology, caregiver conversations and survivorship, nutrition and exercise, patient empowerment, and more.
In addition to the regular sessions, this year’s symposium will also include special closed discussions for scientists. Though these sessions are not open to the general public, the scientists and medical professionals attending will be available to answer questions at other sessions and during meals.
In keeping with past years, the 2015 symposium will also include an Advocacy Day, with presentations by government experts. Last year’s Advocacy Day in Washington D.C. ended with attendees traveling to Capitol Hill to meet with and educate elected officials on the need for increased federal funding for mesothelioma.
Registration for this year’s event is now open. If you would like more information, including the full schedule and information about discounted hotel booking, visit https://www.curemeso.org/symposium.
