In Los Angeles, California a jury has awarded a 73 year old woman $13 million for contracting mesothelioma from Colgate’s Cashmere Bouquet talcum powder. The verdict includes $1.4 million for the plaintiff’s husband. This case could hold substantial impact as it may open asbestos litigation to consumers, wherein asbestos-related cases to this point have involved workers who have contracted asbestos-related diseases from working with the carcinogenic substance.
The jury found the company negligent for failing to warn consumers of the substantial danger of the product and negligent for the design, manufacture and sale of the product. The defendant in the case, Colgate, has announced disappointment with the verdict.
