The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is finalizing plans for the 11th International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma, which will take place March 5-7 in Alexandria, Virginia. The Symposium is open to people who have been affected by mesothelioma, including patients, families of mesothelioma victims, medical professionals, and advocates. This year’s theme is “Breaking Through Barriers in Mesothelioma Research” and will cover topics such as pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma, early detection and biomarkers, treatment options, and current state of mesothelioma research.
Alongside the Symposium, the Meso Foundation will be hosting a Mesothelioma Scientific Seminar for medical professionals. The Seminar, chaired by Drs. Richard Alexander of the University of Maryland and Lee Krug of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, will be an opportunity for scientists to share mesothelioma discoveries in a collaborative environment. Although these sessions are not open to the general public, those attending the Symposium will have an opportunity to meet the participants over the course of the three-day event.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to securing funding for researching mesothelioma treatment options. The Foundation seeks both philanthropic and government support for peer-reviewed research with the ultimate goal of eradicating this deadly disease. In addition, the Meso Foundation provides educational programs, such as its annual Symposium, and support services to victims of mesothelioma. The event will include an update on the Meso Foundation’s recent efforts in the fight against mesothelioma.
The Symposium will take place in Virginia, but will also be available online for those who cannot make the trip. Thursday and Friday’s events will be broadcast over a free live stream online and will be accessible to anyone via computer or smart phone. To access the live stream and the calendar of events, visit https://www.curemeso.org/symposium.
